PERMANENT MAKEUP

What is Microblading?Microblading is the newest & currently the most popular method of permanent cosmetics. A small handful of people performed this method over the last decade across the US but it wasn't offered at all in Sonoma County until around 2015. During the treatment, "blades" made of nano needles are dipped into pigment and used to create ultra-realistic eyebrow hairs. The pigments used are different from traditional tattoo inks. This semi-permanent eyebrow method does not go as deep into the skin as traditional eyebrow tattoos do, making them fade quicker... but it is a TATTOO nonetheless. Please note that miroblading is only semi-permanent when applied with proper technique and at the correct depth. In the hands of an un-trained artist, you are risking the chance of them implanting the pigment too deeply into the skin. Please do your research when looking into permanent cosmetic professionals. Most artists charge more than their standard price to fix work from other artists!

What's the difference between Ombre / Powder / Shading and Microblading?Microblading mimics the growth pattern of the existing eyebrow hairs and is achieved using a manual hand tool ("blade"). This is the most natural looking of all semi-permanent eyebrow treatment. Spaces are left between the hairstrokes and the eyebrows aren't completely filled in. This option is best suited for normal to dry skin types. Oily, thin or mature skin are not ideal candidates for this treatment (see microblading + shading). Microblading requires the most frequent touch ups. Ombre / Powder shading takes the appearance of an eyebrow powder. The color is solid and can be lighter in the center bulb area giving it an 'ombre' effect. This type of semi-permanent eyebrows are achieved with the use of a permanent makeup machine. This option works well for people of all skin types. Powdered ombre brows are the most gentle method and create the least amount of scar tissue. Ombre shading may be combined with microblading in order to fill spaces between the strokes and create the appearance of shadows under the hairs. Shading is also used to cover old eyebrow tattoos, as microblading alone won't completely cover them.

Does it hurt?Pain during the treatment varies from person to person. Most feel minimal discomfort. Topical Lidocaine ointment is used on the area before and during the treatment to minimize any discomfort. Some women experience more sensitivity around the days of their menstrual cycle.

How is the shape chosen? The shape is mapped out with eyebrow pencil and surgical marker beforehand to ensure symmetry. There is no "one-size-fits-all" eyebrow design, so the shape is custom tailored to what looks the best with your features. We are able to follow your existing eyebrow shape or make adjustments according to your face shape. At the follow up session, we will make any adjustments your would like made after getting used to them through the healing process. And remember, eyebrows are sisters not twins! No face is 100% symmetrical ;)
-
How is the color chosen? The color used is custom-mixed in accordance to the existing eyebrow hair shade. We try to match them as closely as possible, but slightly darker than the hairs to account for fading of the strokes. The color will fade approximately 30-40% within the first 3 weeks. Once skin has healed completely, a second session is needed 6 weeks later to fill in any spaces that may have faded and adjust the shape as needed. It is normal for them to appear patchy after the first treatment.
-
What is the healing process like? The initial healing process takes around 10 days. They will appear very dark on days 2-7 and may form a thin scab. The scab will then flake off and the hairstrokes will appear lighter. Some strokes may even seem to disappear all together, this is normal. During this 10 day window, you should avoid sweating, spending extended amounts of time in the sun, taking baths or long steamy showers, going in saltwater or using makeup products on the treated area. Care should be taken not to rub or scratch the eyebrow area. If they get wet, you should pat dry immediately. The eyebrows should only be touched with a clean Q-tip to apply aftercare ointment if needed.
-
How long does it last? The frequency of touch ups needed varies greatly depending on the lifestyle and skin type of the individual, the method used and amount of sun exposure to the treated area. Microblading will require more frequent touch up visits than powdered ombre, creating more scar tissue. Clients with oily skin who get Microblading can expect to need a touch up around 6-8 months after the initial follow up. Clients with normal to dry skin may choose to go 10-18 months between touch ups. Powdered ombre brows can last up to 2 years before needing to be touched up regardless of the client's skin type.
-
How much does it cost? The cost for microblading or ombre shading is $475, split between the online booking fee and the two initial treatments ($50 booking fee, $300 at first visit and $125 at the follow up visit). The cost for combination eyebrows is $525, split between the two initial treatments ($50 booking fee, $350 at the first visit and $125 at the follow up visit). Touch ups (or color boosts) range $150-$250 depending on the length of time since your last visit. The color must still be visible or it will be full price.
-
How long do appointments take?First treatments take around 2 - 2.5 hours to complete. It is not required to book a separate consultation beforehand, as we have time to consult and fill out paperwork at our appointment. Touch ups take around 1 - 2 hours to complete, depending on if the client would like changes made. This is a very meticulous process and we take our time to make sure you leave with brows you absolutely love!

Can I get Microblading if I already have my eyebrows tattooed? This depends on how dark the existing pigment is and how healthy the skin is. In most cases, Microblading isn't enough to cover old permanent cosmetics. Older permanent cosmetics were deposited deeper into the skin than microblading. Tattooed eyebrows also cause scar tissue (depending on how many sessions were done) and this scar tissue does not take to microblading. Instead, we are able to correct the tone and shape of the old work with the machine method via Ombre or Microstrokes & Shading. Some may require removal before correction. Please e-mail well lit photos of your eyebrows or schedule a consultation so we can go over your options!
